Austria: Spirited Meeting in Solidarity with the Resistance against the Military Dictatorship in Egypt

Report (with photos and video) of the Revolutionary Communist Organization LIBERATION (Austrian Section of the RCIT), 8.12.2014,

The Egyptian migrant community organized on 30 November a major event against the military dictatorship of General Sisi in Vienna which was attended by more than 500 people.

The organizers invited the Revolutionary Communist Organization LIBERATION (RKO LIBERATION) as the only non-Egyptian organization. Due to our intensive work in solidarity with the Egyptian resistance since the beginning of the military coup on 3 July 2013, we were able to establish close cooperation with the Egyptian community. The RKO LIBERATION – irrespective of our political rejection of ousted President Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood – condemned the military coup from the outset and called for a united front against it. We therefore participated with a delegation to the event.

The event was addressed by Ibrahim Ali, spokesman for the Coordination Council of the Egyptian Community, as well as Dr. Hamza Zawba. Dr. Zawba was spokesman for the Freedom and Justice Party and was forced to flee after the military coup in Egypt.

Michael Pröbsting, spokesman for the RKO LIBERATION, expressed in his speech the need to fight against the military dictatorship until the overthrow of General Sisi and the seizure of power by the workers and peasants. He also protested against the reactionary “Islamic Law” which the Austrian Government is currently trying to enforce. His speech was interrupted several times by applause.

Based on our experience over the past years, we look confidently towards further cooperation with the Egyptian and other immigrant communities in our struggle against reactionary dictatorships, imperialist wars and racist oppression.
