진보당, 이재명 당선 위해 후보 사퇴: 계속되는 민주대연합 망령! 또 노동자 배신 때리고 자본가 당에 투항!

 

The Ghost of the “Democratic Grand Alliance” Returns Yet Again! A New Betrayal of the Working Class and a Capitulation to a Bourgeois Party!

On May 9, only days after being elected as the Progressive Party’s presidential candidate for the 21^st general election, Kim Jae-yeon declared her withdrawal from the race in a press conference held at the Democratic Party’s headquarters during the so-called “Plaza Presidential Coalition Political-Civic Alliance – Joint Meeting of Political Parties.” As if waiting for the moment, she announced she would not run. [The Democratic Party is a bourgeois-liberal opposition party. Ed]

 

The very next day, a scathing statement of criticism was released in the name of farmer members of the Progressive Party’s Jeon Bong-jun Tractor Struggle Group. “Can the party leadership unilaterally decide to withdraw a candidate who was elected through a vote by all party members? How can one support a Democratic Party candidate who has destroyed agriculture and driven farmers into ruin? This is not only betrayal and deceit—it is a stab in the back. Kim Jae-yeon and the party leadership must resign.” Such furious criticism is now rising among the Progressive Party's ranks.

 

The harmful impact of this act is far greater than the usual shameless endorsements by current and former KCTU officials who, during every election, emerge to proclaim support for bourgeois candidates. Kim Jae-yeon justified her withdrawal by claiming the power of the plaza must be concentrated on securing victory for Lee Jae-myung, the candidate of the bourgeois Democratic Party.

 

“As the Progressive Party presidential candidate, I will dedicate everything to rallying the power of the plaza to bring about an overwhelming regime change that can eliminate the forces of rebellion and bring about a grand societal reform,” she said. “I support candidate Lee Jae-myung as the plaza’s candidate and will end my preliminary campaign.”

 

[Note of the Editor: “The forces of rebellion” refers to the failed coup d’état of right-wing ex-President Yoon Suk Yeol on 3 December 2024 which was quickly defeated after popular masses protested on the streets. Meanwhile, Yoon has been impeached.]

 

 

 

The Power of the Plaza Belongs to Fighting Workers

 

 

 

The 2016–2017 movement that filled the streets with calls for Park Geun-hye’s resignation was hijacked by the institutional framework, and the Democratic Party under Moon Jae-in reaped all the gains – a clear case of “brewing the porridge only to feed it to the dogs.” This memory remains vivid in the minds of the people who filled the plazas. The cries of the Progressive Party’s farmer members today reflect a determination not to repeat the same mistake.

 

There are still dismissed workers fighting today: the GTTU branch in high-altitude protest, the union at Sejong Hotel, Korean Hi-Tech Optical workers, laid-off workers at Hyundai subcontractor Isu Enterprise, the Homeplus union, and teacher Ji Hye-bok’s reinstatement struggle. Though small in numbers, their resistance is resolute. Any talk of the “power of the plaza” or “grand reform” is meaningless without solidarity and actions for these struggles – without resolving these fights.

 

 

 

To the Working People: All Anti-Worker, Anti-People Forces Are Rebellious Forces

 

 

 

Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party, who now parades around meeting chaebol chairmen under the banner of “national unity,” is supposedly the one Kim Jae-yeon is entrusting with the mission of “eliminating rebellious forces and completing social reform.”

 

But all bourgeois regimes have always cloaked their policies in the rhetoric of reform. Time and again, they have shown that “reform” is merely another name for regression.

 

The Lee Jae-myung administration, too, will push for labour law deterioration and privatization of public sectors in collusion with monopoly bourgeois interests. These will be carried out under the false banner of “reform.”

 

Eliminating “rebellious forces” is not about purging political rivals. To the working people, we say all anti-worker, anti-people forces are the true rebellious forces!

 

The bourgeoisie, those “quarrelling brothers,” may fight over who takes more profit, but when it comes to exploiting workers, they are united as one. Bourgeois political factions, who fight for control over the state—merely an executive committee of the bourgeoisie—are no different. They stand as one when it comes to suppressing the working people. Both the Democratic Party and the People Power Party are enemies of the working class. We Will Relentlessly Fight for the Political Independence of the Working Class

 

 

 

We have relentlessly criticized the Progressive Party for capitulating to the bourgeois Democratic Party out of lust for parliamentary seats.

 

Our critique of the Progressive Party—whose role has been to obstruct the independent political force of the working class—is essential, especially because it has strong influence amning the majority of the organized labour movement, which has already been corrupted by class collaborationism.

 

We will continue to fight uncompromisingly until the South Korean labour movement achieves true class independence and overcomes its political subordination to bourgeois parties.

진보당 김재연 후보는 21대 진보당 대선후보 경선에서 당선 되자 마자 기다렸다는 듯이 5월9일 민주당 당 대표실에서 열린 “광장 대선연합 정치시민연대-제정당 연석회의”에서 후보사퇴 불출마를 선언했다. 다음 날 바로 전봉준 트랙터 3차 투쟁단 농민당원 일동 명의의 비판 성명이 나왔다. “전 당원의 투표로 선출된 후보를 반민주적으로 당대표단이 사퇴를 결정할 수 있나. 어떻게 농업을 파괴하고 농민을 사지로 몰아넣은 민주당 후보를 지지할 수 있나 .이건 배신과 기만을 넘어 등에 비수를 꽂는 행위다. 김재연 상임대표와 당대표단은 물러나라” 진보당 당원들 속에서조차도 이런 분노에 찬 비판이 나오고 있다.

 

선거 때만 되면 나타나 자본가당 후보 지지 선언을 하며 그 추악한 실체가 다 폭로된 전현직 민주노총 관료들이 “소년공” 운운하며 이번에도 자본가당 후보 지지 선언을 한 것과는 비교할 수 없을 정도로 그 해악이 크다. 진보당 김재연 후보가 사퇴 명분이라고 내세운 것도 이재명 자본가당 후보의 승리를 위해 광장의 힘을 다 몰아줘야 한다는 것이다. “진보당 대선 후보인 저는 광장의 힘을 내란 세력 청산과 사회대개혁의 동력으로 모아낼 수 있는 압도적 정권교체를 위해 모든 것을 던지겠다”며 “저는 이재명 후보를 광장 대선후보로 지지하며 예비후보 활동을 마무리 하겠다”고 했다.

 

 

 

광장의 힘은 투쟁하는 노동자들에게 있다

 

 

 

2016~7년 광장을 뜨겁게 달궜던 박근혜 퇴진투쟁의 힘이 제도권 틀안 에 갇히면서 광장투쟁의 성과를 고스란히 민주당 문재인 정권이 가져간 그야말로 “죽쒀서 개 줬던” 일은 아직도 광장 대중들의 뇌리에 깊이 박혀 있다. 진보당의 농민 당원들의 외침은 또다시 죽쒀서 개줄 순 없다는 것에 다름 아니다. 지금도 투쟁하는 해고노동자들이 남아있다. 고공에 올라있는 거통고 지회, 세종호텔지부. 한국하이테크옵티칼 노동자들, 현대차 이수기업 해고자들, 홈플러스노조, 지혜복 교사노동자 복직투쟁 등 소수지만 강고하게 투쟁하고 있다. 이들 투쟁 승리를 위한 연대와 실천 없이, 나아가 해결 없이 광장의 힘 운운하는 것도, “사회대개혁”도 다 헛소리다.

 

 

 

노동자 인민에겐 반노동 반인민 세력이 모두 내란세력이다

 

 

 

“국민통합”을 내걸고 재벌 회장님들 만나 눈도장 찍고 있는 것이 지금 민주당 이재명이다. 이런 이재명한테 김재연 진보당 후보가 사퇴하며 내란세력 청산 사회대개혁 완수를 맡긴다고 한다.

 

개혁이라는 이름의 수사는 그 동안 모든 자본가정권에서 하는 말이다. 그리고 개혁은 개악의 다른 말이라는 것을 저들은 실천으로 보여주었다. 이재명 정권도 독점자본과의 유착 속에서 노동법 개악, 공공부문 민영화 등을 추진할 것이며, 이는 "개혁"의 이름으로 진행될 개악의 연속일 것이다. 내란세력 청산도 정적을 청산하라는 말이 아니다. 노동자 인민에게는 반노동 반인민 세력이 모두 내란세력이다. “서로 싸우는 형제들”인 자본가들은 이윤을 누가 더 많이 가져갈지를 놓고는 서로 아귀다툼을 벌이지만 노동자를 착취하는 데는 한 몸이다. 자본가들의 집행위원회에 불과한 국가권력을 차지하고자 다투는 자본가 정치세력들도 마찬가지다. 노동자 인민을 찍어 누르는 데는 한 몸이다. 국민의힘과 민주당 모두가 노동자 인민의 적이다.

 

 

 

우리는 노동자계급의 정치적 독립을 위해 쉼 없이 투쟁할 것이다

 

 

 

우리는 금뱃지에 눈이 멀어 자본가당 민주당에 투항한 진보당에 대해 쉼없는 비판을 해왔다.
노동자독자정치세력화/ 계급독립을 가로막는 진보당에 대한 비판은 조직노동자운동의 다수파로서 가뜩이나 노사협조, 계급협조주의로 타락해가는 조직노동자운동에 더욱 악영향을 끼치기 때문이다. 우리는 남한 노동자운동의 계급 독립을 위해, 부르주아정당들에 대한 정치적 종속을 극복할 때까지 비타협적으로 투쟁해 나갈 것이다
