Syria: The People Brought Down the Assad Tyranny!

The Glorious Syrian Revolution has won but it is only a first step!

Statement by Michael Pröbsting, International Secretary of the Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT), 8 December 2024, www.thecommunists.net

1. This is a historic triumph for the Syrian people and the oppressed masses all over the world! After 53 years of blood-thirsty tyranny, the rule of the Assad family has been finally destroyed by the heroic Syrian people. Since March 2011, the popular masses have risen and fought against the overwhelming forces of the regime. Hundreds of thousands were killed in this unequal and gigantic battle and the revolutionary forces suffered many setbacks. But they did not stop resisting and continued to organise and to fight – in the liberated territories of Idlib, in the underground and in the diaspora. Finally, the rebels in Idlib launched a surprise offensive on 27 November, provoking local popular uprisings all over the country and liberated Aleppo, Hama, Daraa, Suweyda, Homs and, finally, Damascus. Assad was forced to flee in panic, and his fate is currently unknown.

2. The Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT) cheers the victory of the Syrian masses – a struggle which we have unconditionally supported since the very beginning. In the past years, numerous demoralized souls deserted the revolution, proclaimed that it would be “dead” or “hijacked by jihadist forces”. They all ignored the fundamental truth that a revolutionary process is much more than the views of its leadership but reflects the deep desire of the masses for freedom and equality. Look at the masses cheering on the streets and toppling the disgusting statues of Assad all over the country! Look at the thousands of prisoners who can't believe that they can leave the dirty dungeons where they were tortured for so long! Those who stand apart from such struggles are hopeless sectarians who have been taught a bitter lesson by history.

3. The victory of the Glorious Syrian Revolution is a historic event not only for the Syrian people but for the whole Middle East as well as globally. It will inspire the masses in other countries to rebel against their “own”, similarly brutal, tyrants. There is no doubt that General Sisi in Egypt, Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia, Kais Saied in Tunisia, Khamenei in Iran and all the other reactionary rulers are trembling since the heard the news about Assad’s downfall. Likewise, Putin has lost an important ally in the region and all the Great Powers are looking highly nervous to the revolutionary hotbed in Syria. And while Israel might welcome the weakening of the sphere of influence of its rival Iran, it regrets the loss of a dictator who never fired a single shot against the Zionist state and who guaranteed stability at its northeastern front.

4. While the Syrian Revolution has won an important victory, the road ahead is full of traps and dangers. The biggest danger now is that power will fall into the hands of leaders who are under no control of the popular masses, and who are under pressure from foreign powers. Brothers and sisters, do not trust any leader – neither Jolani nor anyone else! Trust only yourselves, your arms, your power!

5. The most important task now is the creation of popular assemblies in all workplaces, neighborhoods and villages in which the masses can freely discuss and decide about the most important issues. Such assemblies should meet regularly and democratically elect delegates who are accountable and recallable. Such delegates should create regional and national councils. It is such a democratic council of the people which should be the highest decision-making body in the country. All those who want to lead the country must subordinate to the will of such a popular council. Likewise, all armed forces must be an executive arm of such a popular council.

6. Such a popular council must be the basis of a workers and fellahin government which should run the country. Its most important tasks would be the destruction of all institutions of the Assad regime, and the creation of a new, democratic state apparatus based on such popular assemblies. Such a government should be secular and respect the rights of all religious and ethnic groups. It should guarantee the Kurdish people the right to national self-determination. Furthermore, a workers and fellahin governments should expropriate the super-rich elite, nationalize the key sectors of the economy and open the road to a democratic and socialist future.

7. Another important task of the revolution is to regain the full national independence of Syria. All foreign troops – from Russia, Iran, the U.S. and Türkiye – must immediately and unconditionally leave the country! Furthermore, the Syrian revolutionaries – who raised the Palestinian flag alongside the Free Syra flag at the Aleppo Citadel – need to aid the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people by any means necessary. Finally, a free Syria should call the brothers and sisters in the region, who are suffering from similar tyrants and Great Power domination, to rise up and liberate their countries.

Siria: ¡El pueblo derrocó la tiranía de Assad!

¡La gloriosa revolución siria ha triunfado, pero es sólo un primer paso!

1. ¡Este es un triunfo histórico para el pueblo sirio y las masas oprimidas de todo el mundo! Después de 53 años de tiranía sanguinaria, el heroico pueblo sirio ha destruido finalmente el poder de la familia Assad. Desde marzo de 2011, las masas populares se han levantado y han luchado contra las fuerzas abrumadoras del régimen. Cientos de miles de personas han muerto en esta batalla desigual y gigantesca y las fuerzas revolucionarias han sufrido muchos reveses. Pero no han dejado de resistir y han seguido organizándose y luchando, en los territorios liberados de Idlib, en la clandestinidad y en la diáspora. Finalmente, los rebeldes de Idlib lanzaron una ofensiva sorpresa el 27 de noviembre, provocando levantamientos populares locales en todo el país y liberando Alepo, Hama, Daraa, Suweyda, Homs y, finalmente, Damasco. Assad se vio obligado a huir presa del pánico y su destino es desconocido en la actualidad.

2. La Corriente Comunista Revolucionaria Internacional (RCIT) celebra la victoria de las masas sirias, una lucha que hemos apoyado incondicionalmente desde el principio. En los últimos años, numerosas almas desmoralizadas han desertado de la revolución, proclamando que estaría “muerta” o “secuestrada por las fuerzas yihadistas”. Todos ignoraron la verdad fundamental de que un proceso revolucionario es mucho más que las opiniones de su liderazgo, sino que refleja el profundo deseo de las masas por la libertad y la igualdad. ¡Miren a las masas vitoreando en las calles y derribando las repugnantes estatuas de Assad en todo el país! ¡Miren a los miles de prisioneros que no pueden creer que puedan salir de las sucias mazmorras donde fueron torturados durante tanto tiempo! Aquellos que se mantienen al margen de tales luchas son sectarios sin esperanzas a quienes la historia les ha enseñado una amarga lección.

3. La victoria de la Gloriosa Revolución Siria es un acontecimiento histórico no sólo para el pueblo sirio, sino para todo Oriente Próximo y el mundo entero. Inspirará a las masas de otros países a rebelarse contra sus “propios” tiranos, igualmente brutales. No hay duda de que el general Sisi en Egipto, Mohammed bin Salman en Arabia Saudita, Kais Saied en Túnez, Jamenei en Irán y todos los demás gobernantes reaccionarios están temblando desde que se enteraron de la noticia de la caída de Assad. Asimismo, Putin ha perdido un importante aliado en la región y todas las grandes potencias miran con gran nerviosismo al foco revolucionario en Siria. Y aunque Israel puede acoger con agrado el debilitamiento de la esfera de influencia de su rival Irán, lamenta la pérdida de un dictador que nunca disparó un solo tiro contra el Estado sionista y que garantizó la estabilidad en su frente nororiental.

4. Aunque la revolución siria ha obtenido una importante victoria, el camino que le queda por delante está lleno de trampas y peligros. El mayor peligro ahora es que el poder caiga en manos de líderes que no están bajo el control de las masas populares y que están bajo la presión de potencias extranjeras. Hermanos y hermanas, no confíen en ningún líder, ni en Jolani ni en nadie más. ¡Confíen sólo en ustedes mismos, en sus armas, en su poder!

5. La tarea más importante ahora es la creación de asambleas populares en todos los lugares de trabajo, barrios y pueblos, en las que las masas puedan discutir y decidir libremente sobre los asuntos más importantes. Estas asambleas deben reunirse periódicamente y elegir democráticamente a delegados que sean responsables y revocables. Estos delegados deben crear consejos regionales y nacionales. Este consejo democrático del pueblo debe ser el máximo órgano de toma de decisiones del país. Todos aquellos que quieran dirigir el país deben subordinarse a la voluntad de este consejo popular. Asimismo, todas las fuerzas armadas deben ser un brazo ejecutivo de este consejo popular.

6. Un consejo popular de este tipo debe ser la base de un gobierno obrero y campesino que debería dirigir el país. Sus tareas más importantes serían la destrucción de todas las instituciones del régimen de Asad y la creación de un nuevo aparato estatal democrático basado en esas asambleas populares. Un gobierno de este tipo debería ser laico y respetar los derechos de todos los grupos religiosos y étnicos. Debería garantizar al pueblo kurdo el derecho a la autodeterminación nacional. Además, un gobierno obrero y campesino debería expropiar a la élite superrica, nacionalizar los sectores clave de la economía y abrir el camino a un futuro democrático y socialista.

7. Otra importante tarea de la revolución es recuperar la independencia nacional plena de Siria. Todas las tropas extranjeras –de Rusia, Irán, Estados Unidos y Turquía– deben abandonar el país de inmediato y sin condiciones. Además, los revolucionarios sirios –que izaron la bandera palestina junto a la bandera de Siria Libre en la ciudadela de Alepo– deben ayudar a la heroica resistencia del pueblo palestino por todos los medios necesarios. Por último, una Siria libre debe llamar a los hermanos y hermanas de la región, que sufren tiranías similares y la dominación de las grandes potencias, a levantarse y liberar sus países.

1. Это исторический триумф сирийского народа и угнетенных масс во всем мире! После 53 лет кровожадной тирании правление семьи Асадов было окончательно разрушено героическим сирийским народом. С марта 2011 года народные массы восстали и сражались против превосходящих сил режима. Сотни тысяч были убиты в этой неравной и гигантской битве, а революционные силы потерпели множество неудач. Но они не прекратили сопротивление и продолжали организовываться и сражаться — на освобожденных территориях Идлиба, в подполье и в диаспоре. Наконец, мятежники в Идлибе начали внезапное наступление 27 ноября, спровоцировав местные народные восстания по всей стране и освободили Алеппо, Хаму, Даръа, Эс-Сувейду, Хомс и, наконец, Дамаск. Асад был вынужден бежать в панике, и его судьба в настоящее время неизвестна.

2. Революционная Коммунистическая Интернациональная Тенденция (RCIT) приветствует победу сирийских масс – борьбу которых мы безоговорочно поддерживали с самого начала. В последние годы многочисленные деморализованные души покинули революцию, провозгласили, что она «мертва» или «захвачена джихадистскими силами». Все они проигнорировали основополагающую истину, что революционный процесс – это гораздо больше, чем взгляды его руководства, но он отражает глубокое стремление масс к свободе и равенству. Посмотрите на массы, ликующие на улицах и свергающие отвратительные статуи Асада по всей стране! Посмотрите на тысячи заключенных, которые не могут поверить, что они могут покинуть грязные темницы, где их так долго пытали! Те, кто стоит в стороне от такой борьбы, – безнадежные сектанты, которым история преподала горький урок.

3. Победа Славной сирийской революции является историческим событием не только для сирийского народа, но и для всего Ближнего Востока, а также для всего мира. Она вдохновит массы в других странах на восстание против своих «собственных», столь же жестоких, тиранов. Нет сомнений, что генерал Сиси в Египте, Мухаммед бин Салман в Саудовской Аравии, Кайс Саид в Тунисе, Хаменеи в Иране и все другие реакционные правители дрожат, услышав новости о падении Асада. Точно так же Путин потерял важного союзника в регионе, и все великие державы с большим беспокойством смотрят на революционный очаг в Сирии. И хотя Израиль может приветствовать ослабление сферы влияния своего соперника Ирана, он сожалеет о потере диктатора, который никогда не делал ни единого выстрела против сионистского государства и который гарантировал стабильность на его северо-восточном фронте.

4. Хотя Сирийская революция одержала важную победу, дорога впереди полна ловушек и опасностей. Самая большая опасность сейчас в том, что власть попадет в руки лидеров, которые не находятся под контролем народных масс, а находятся под давлением иностранных держав. Братья и сестры, не доверяйте ни одному лидеру – ни Джолани, ни кому-либо другому! Доверяйте только себе, своему оружию, своей силе!

5. Самая важная задача сейчас — создание народных собраний на всех рабочих местах, в кварталах и деревнях, на которых массы могут свободно обсуждать и принимать решения по самым важным вопросам. Такие собрания должны собираться регулярно и демократическим путем избирать делегатов, которые подотчетны и отзываемы. Такие делегаты должны создавать региональные и национальные советы. Именно такой демократический совет народа должен быть высшим органом принятия решений в стране. Все те, кто хочет руководить страной, должны подчиняться воле такого народного совета. Аналогично, все вооруженные силы должны быть исполнительным органом такого народного совета.

6. Такой народный совет должен стать основой рабочего и феллахского правительства, которое должно управлять страной. Его важнейшими задачами будут уничтожение всех институтов режима Асада и создание нового, демократического государственного аппарата, основанного на таких народных собраниях. Такое правительство должно быть светским и уважать права всех религиозных и этнических групп. Оно должно гарантировать курдскому народу право на национальное самоопределение. Кроме того, рабочее и феллахское правительство должно экспроприировать сверхбогатую элиту, национализировать ключевые секторы экономики и открыть дорогу к демократическому и социалистическому будущему

7. Еще одной важной задачей революции является восстановление полной национальной независимости Сирии. Все иностранные войска – из России, Ирана, США и Турции – должны немедленно и безоговорочно покинуть страну! Более того, сирийские революционеры – которые подняли палестинский флаг рядом с флагом свободной Сирии в цитадели Алеппо – должны помочь героическому сопротивлению палестинского народа любыми необходимыми средствами. Наконец, свободная Сирия должна призвать братьев и сестер в регионе, которые страдают от подобных тиранов и господства великих держав, подняться и освободить свои страны.

Да здравствует Славная Сирийская революция!

시리아: 인민이 아사드 학살정권을 무너뜨렸다!

- 위대한 시리아혁명이 승리했다. 그러나 이제 첫 걸음을 띠었을 뿐이다!

1. 이것은 시리아 인민과 전 세계 피억압 대중에게 역사적인 승리다! 53년간의 피에 굶주린 폭정 끝에 마침내 아사드 가문의 지배가 시리아 인민에 의해 타도된 것이다. 2011년 3월 이래로 인민대중이 일어나 정권의 압도적인 물리력에 맞서 싸웠다. 이 불평등한 전투에서 노동자·민중 수십만 명이 사망했고 혁명 세력은 많은 후퇴와 정체를 겪었다. 그러나 그들은 저항을 멈추지 않고 계속 조직하고 싸워나갔다. 해방 영토 이들리브에서, 지하 운동과 디아스포라 이주민 거주지에서 저항과 반격의 거점을 세워 싸웠다. 마침내, 이드리브의 반군은 11월 27일 깜짝 공세를 감행하여 전국적으로 각지에서 인민봉기를 이끌어내며 알레포, 하마, 다라, 수웨이다, 홈스, 그리고 마지막으로 다마스쿠스를 해방시켰다. 아사드는 3년 전 아프간 괴뢰정부 수반 가니가 그랬던 것처럼 겁에 질려 국외로 도망쳐야 했다.

2. 혁명적 공산주의인터내셔널 동맹 (RCIT)은 시리아 대중의 승리를 응원한다. 우리가 그 시작 시점부터 조건없이 지지해 온 이 투쟁의 승리를 전폭 환영하는 바다. 지난 몇 년 수많은 사기 저하된 영혼들이 혁명을 버리고 떠나며, 혁명은 "죽었다", "지하드파 세력에 의해 공중 납치됐다"고 선언했다. 그들 모두가 혁명적 과정은 지도부의 견해 그 이상이며, 대중의 자유와 평등에 대한 깊은 열망을 반영한다는 근본 진실을 무시했다. 대중이 거리에 뛰쳐나와 환호하며 온 나라에 세워져 있는 역겨운 아사드 동상을 무너뜨리는 것을 보라! 오랜 동안 고문 당해온 지하감옥을 나갈 수 있을 거라고 생각할 수 없었던 수천 명의 정치수들이 승리를 외치며 나오고 있는 것을 보라! 이 같은 투쟁에 거리를 두고 비난할 거리를 찾는 자들은 역사가 주는 쓰디쓴 교훈을 배우지 않으려는 가망 없는 종파주의자들뿐이다.

3. 영광스러운 시리아혁명의 승리는 시리아 인민에게뿐만 아니라 중동 전역과 전 세계에도 역사적인 사건이다. 시리아혁명은 다른 나라의 대중들이 ‘자’국의 비슷한 독재와 폭군에 맞서 항쟁과 봉기와 혁명으로 일어서도록 고무할 것이다. 이집트의 시시 군사독재, 사우디의 빈 살만, 튀니지의 카이스 사이드, 이란의 하메네이 그리고 그 밖의 모든 반동 지배자들이 아사드 몰락 소식을 들은 이후로 떨고 있다는 것은 의심의 여지가 없다. 또 푸틴은 중동에서 중요한 동맹군을 잃었고 모든 강대국들은 시리아의 이 혁명 온상을 극도로 긴장하며 주시하고 있다. 그리고 이스라엘이 라이벌 이란의 세력권 약화를 환영할 수 있겠지만, 시온주의 국가에 대해 단 한 발도 쏘지 않고 북동부 전선에서 안정을 담보해준 독재자를 잃게 된 것을 이스라엘이 안타깝게 보고 있을 것이라는 것 또한 의심의 여지가 없다.

4. 시리아혁명이 중요한 승리를 거두었지만, 앞에 놓인 길은 함정과 위험이 널려 있다. 지금 최대의 위험은 인민대중의 통제 하에 있지 않은, 외세 열강들의 압력을 받고 있는 지도자들의 손에 권력이 넘어가게 될 것이라는 것이다. 형제자매들은 어떤 지도자도 믿지 않는다. 졸라니도 다른 누구도 믿지 않는다! 오직 나 자신만을, 나의 총만을, 나의 힘만을 오직 믿어야 한다!

5. 지금 가장 중요한 과제는 모든 일터와 지역공동체에서 대중이 가장 중요한 사안들에 대해 자유롭게 토론하고 결정할 수 있는 평의회, 민중공회를 구성하는 것이다. 이러한 평의회, 공회는 선출한 대중에 책임을 지는, 언제든 소환 가능한 대의원/대표자를 상급 단위 평의회, 공회에 파견하여 지역, 전국 평의회를 구성해야 한다. 이와 같이 민주적인 노동자·민중 평의회가 나라의 최고 의사결정 기관이 되어야 한다. 나라를 이끌고자 하는 모든 자는 그러한 인민 평의회의 의지에 따라야 한다. 또, 모든 무장 대오는 그러한 인민평의회의 집행기관 일원으로 속해야 한다.

6. 그러한 노동자·민중평의회가 나라를 운영할 노동자·빈농 정부의 기초가 되어야 한다. 이 노·농정부의 가장 중요한 임무는 아사드 폭압체제의 모든 제도를 분쇄 파괴하고, 그러한 평의회에 기초를 둔 새로운 민주적 국가기구를 구성하는 것이다. 이 새 노동자·민중 정부는 종교 종파주의를 배격하는 세속 정부여야 하며 모든 종교 및 민족·인종 집단의 권리를
