Since the heroic uprising of the Palestinian people on October 7, 2023, the Zionist State of Israel has continued its genocidal war of massacre. It bombs civilian areas, indiscriminately slaughters children, women, and the elderly, and enforces a blockade of land and sea to isolate the people of Gaza and drive them into starvation. Countless children are dying from malnutrition, and even aid workers delivering food to the starving are being shot down by Israeli soldiers. This is not an ordinary war but a planned war of racial extermination.

 

 

 

The Lee Jae-myung Government’s Illegal Collusion in War Crimes

 

 

 

Not long after the war of massacre began in October 2023, imperialist monopolies formed a consortium to plunder the oil and gas fields off the coast of Gaza contracted by Israel. One such company, Dana Petroleum, is a British-based firm wholly owned (100%) by the Korea National Oil Corporation. While the Palestinian people are being mercilessly subjected to racial extermination, international robber-monopolists are brazenly carrying out resource plunder. This is an illegal act of resource plunder under international law, taking place within Palestinian territorial waters illegally occupied by Israel.

 

The South Korean government and its state-owned oil company have joined this colonial resource plunder, making the Republic of Korea an accomplice and collaborator in Israel’s war crimes. South Korean monopoly capital and its capitalist state are actively participating as a component of international monopoly capital in colonial and semi-colonial resource plunder.

 

 

 

HD Hyundai, Hanwha Ocean, and South Korean Monopoly Capital’s Collusion in War Preparations

 

 

 

On July 31, 2025, a US-Korea tariff agreement was concluded: 15% mutual tariff adjustment and the creation of a $450 billion US investment fund. What is noteworthy is that out of the $450 billion, $150 billion will be allocated to the US shipbuilding industry under the program dubbed MASGA (“Make American Shipbuilding Great Again”). Behind the façade of shipbuilding revival lies the core aim: strengthening the US Navy’s war power.

 

Trump, as part of his “30-Year Shipbuilding Plan” announced in 2020, pledged to build 350 warships by 2026. Hanwha Ocean, already engaged in US military ship repair and construction through its acquisition of the Philadelphia Shipyard, and HD Hyundai, leveraging its technological power, are both investing in the US shipbuilding sector. In reality, this is part of a project to boost US naval power. HD Hyundai has even held discussions with the US defense contractor Palantir on AI shipyard cooperation, further concretizing this path.

 

Thus, the outcome of the tariff negotiations reveals how the interests of South Korean monopoly capital align with those of US military-industrial monopolies, turning South Korea into a co-conspirator in US preparations for wars against China, East Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. In this regard, the so-called Jaju (self-reliance) faction’s claims about “loss of sovereignty” and “plunder of the national economy,” calling on the government delegation to “trust the people and not fear” under the banner of national self-determination, are exposed as thoroughly unclass-based, anti-worker, and anti-people.

 

Trade negotiations between imperialist states are fundamentally based on imperialist tariff alliances (such as the Korea-US FTA) and are carried out according to the interests of the ruling classes and monopoly bourgeoisie of both sides, not the interests of workers and the people.

 

Depending on the outcome, they will deploy all manner of nationalist rhetoric to squeeze workers and the people further, launching new attacks on wages and working conditions.

 

 

 

The Labor Movement Must Take the Lead in Expanding Solidarity with Palestine

 

 

 

The heroic resistance of the Palestinian people has sparked a massive international solidarity movement by workers and the oppressed worldwide. This international movement is gaining historical significance comparable to the anti-Vietnam War movement of the 1960s and 70s.

 

In South Korea too, solidarity organizations have been formed, and protests have been carried out in Seoul, Ulsan, and elsewhere. Yet these remain small-scale, led mainly by a minority of unions, leftist activists, and pacifist groups.

 

Despite repression and social pressure, many unions and workers’ organizations around the world have joined international boycott movements, refusing to ship weapons, organizing solidarity demonstrations, and taking direct action. For this movement to expand and grow, the labor movement must step forward, led by class-conscious workers.

 

What is blocking the South Korean labor movement, which – unlike the West – is relatively free from direct repression on this issue? Is it lack of understanding of deep-seated anti-Semitic or anti-Muslim prejudices? Is it weak anti-war or class solidarity consciousness? No. At root lies the economic-craft unionism and bureaucratism that dominate the labor movement.

 

To overcome this barrier, the labor movement must confront South Korean imperialism itself – the material basis of craft-unionism and bureaucratism. A struggle is needed against the super-profits and plunder that South Korean monopoly capital and its bourgeois government extract from semi-colonial and colonial countries in the Global South. The Lee Jae-myung government’s plunder of Gaza’s gas resources is just one example. For decades, South Korean monopolies have extracted super-profits in Southeast Asia and across the Global South.

 

The Lee Jae-myung government has trampled on war victims, pushed through Japan-Korea economic and security cooperation, and joined Trump in escalating East Asia’s war crisis under the slogan of “modernizing alliances” aimed at containing China. This is not due to “subjugation” or “external coercion” but is carried out in line with the self-interest of the South Korean bourgeois state: to participate in imperialist spoils-sharing, to expand its share of the global market, and to join the imperialist struggle for the division and redivision of the world. It is entirely consistent with the “national interest” of South Korean monopoly capital.

 

 

 

Unite the Struggle Against South Korean Imperialist Plunder with the Palestine Solidarity Movement

 

 

 

Let us unite the struggle against South Korean monopoly capital’s colonial and semi-colonial plunder and its support for imperialist wars with the Palestine solidarity movement. The labor movement must take the lead in what is today the most powerful anti-imperialist struggle and international class battle—the solidarity movement with Palestine.

 

Let us denounce HD Hyundai, Hanwha Ocean, and all other monopolies directly or indirectly complicit in the war crimes in Palestine, and block them through practical struggle. Let us join the international boycott movement: boycott Israeli products, stop all support and events related to Israel. Solidarity with the oppressed nation’s workers and people is the natural class demand and duty of workers from the oppressor nation. This is how we put into practice today the long-standing slogans of the workers’ movement: ‘Workers are One’ and ‘Workers of the World, Unite!’

2023년 10월 7일 팔레스타인 인민의 영웅적인 봉기 이후 시온주의 이스라엘 국가가 제노사이드 학살 전쟁을 지속하고 있다. 민간인 지역을 폭격하고 아동과 여성, 노인을 무차별 학살하며 바다와 땅을 봉쇄해 가자지구 인민을 고립시켜 아사로 몰아넣고 있다. 수많은 아동들이 영양실조로 죽어가고 있으며 굶주린 주민들에게 식량을 나르는 구호자들까지 이스라엘 군의 총에 쓰러지고 있다. 이는 일반적인 전쟁이 아니라 계획적인 인종 학살 전쟁이다.

 

 

 

이재명 정부의 불법적인 전쟁범죄 가담 공모

 

 

 

2023년 10월 학살전쟁이 시작되고 얼마 지나지 않아 제국주의 독점체들은 이스라엘이 발주한 가자지구 앞바다 유전과 가스전 약탈을 위한 컨소시엄을 결성했다. 그중 하나인 다나 페트롤리엄은 한국석유공사가 100%로 지분을 가진 영국계 회사다. 팔레스타인 인민들이 무참하게 인종 학살을 당하는 가운데 한편에선 가증스럽게도 국제 강도 독점자본들이 자원 강탈을 자행하고 있는 것이다, 팔레스타인 영해를 불법 점령한 속에서 국제법상으로도 불법적인 자원 약탈이다. 남한 정부와 석유공사는 이 같은 식민지 자원 약탈에 참가하여 이스라엘의 전쟁범죄에 가담 공모하는 국가가 되었다. 국제 독점자본의 일원으로 식민지·반식민지 자원 약탈에 적극적으로 참여하고 있는 대한민국 독점자본이고 대한민국 자본가국가인 것이다.

 

 

 

HD현대, 한화오션등 남한 독점자본의 전쟁준비 공모

 

 

 

2025년 7월31일 상호관세 15%, 대미투자펀드 4500달러 조성으로 한미 관세협상이 타결 되었다. 주목할 점은 대미투자금 4500억 달러 중 1500억 달러가 마스가 (MASGA; “미국 조선업을 위대하게”)로 통칭되는 미국 조선산업 재건에 투입된다는 점이다. 말이 조선산업 재건이지 미 해군 전력 증강이 핵심이다.

 

트럼프는 2020년 계획된 “30년 군함건조계획”의 일환으로 2026년까지 군함350척 건조를 공약으로 내건 바 있다. 이미 미국 필라조선소를 매입, 진출해 미군선박 수리 건조를 진행하고 있는 한화오션과 기술력을 바탕으로 한 HD현대의 대미조선업 투자는 실제적으로는 미국의 해군 군사력를 증강하는 프로젝트의 일환인 것이다. HD현대는 미국 방산업체인 팔란티어와 AI조선소 협력방안을 논의하며 그 행보를 구체화 하고 있다.

 

이렇듯 관세협상의 결과는 남한 독점자본의 이해와 미국 군수독점자본의 이해가 맞아 떨어져 남한이 미국의 대 중국/동아시아/중동/중남미 전쟁 준비의 공모 협력자가 되는 것이다. 이에 대해 자주파 일각에서 말하는 “주권 침탈”이니 “국민경제 약탈”이니 하며 “국민을 믿고 쫄지 말라”며 대한민국 정부 협상단에 ‘민족자주’를 주문하는 애국주의 · 민족주의 요구가 얼마나 몰계급적, 반노동자 · 반민중적인 노선에서 나온 것인지 적나라하게 드러나고 있다.

 

제국주의 국가 간의 관세협상은 기본적으로 제국주의 관세동맹 (한미 FTA 같은)을 근거로 하고 그것에 기반하여 이루어진다. 애초에 노동자·민중의 이해가 아니라 양 제국주의 지배계급과 독점자본들의 이해를 중심으로 진행되고 있는 것이다. 오히려 협상 결과의 유불리에 따라 온갖 애국주의 · 민족주의 수사를 동원해 노동자·민중을 쥐어짜며 임금과 노동조건에 대한 공격을 시도할 것이다.

 

 

 

팔레스타인 연대운동의 확대 강화에 노동운동이 나서야 한다

 

 

 

팔레스타인 인민의 영웅적인 저항투쟁은 전 세계 노동자 민중들의 대규모 국제연대 운동을 촉발했다. 이 국제적 운동은 60~70년대 베트남 전쟁 반대 운동에 버금가는 위상과 역사적 의의를 얻고 있다. 남한에서도 팔레스타인 연대운동 기구들이 만들어져 서울과 울산 등에서 지속적으로 투쟁을 이어 가고 있지만 아직 소수의 노조, 좌파 활동가들, 평화주의 활동가들을 주축으로 소규모로 진행 되고 있다.

 

정부의 탄압과 사회여론 압력에도 불구하고 많은 나라의 노동자들과 노동조합은 국제적 보이콧 운동에 동참해 무기 선적 거부, 연대시위 등 투쟁에 나서고 있다. 이 운동의 확대 강화를 위해선 선진노동자들을 위시해 노동운동이 나서야 한다. 서구와 달리 팔레스타인 연대운동에 관한 한 탄압에서 상대적으로 자유로운 남한에서 무엇이 노동운동을 가로막고 있는가. 뿌리 깊은 반유대주의/ 반이슬람주의 관념 등에 대한 이해부족? 반전의식, 계급적 연대의식 부족? 아니다. 그보다 근저에는 노동운동을 지배하는 경제·조합주의, 노조관료주의가 자리 잡고 있다.

 

이 벽을 넘어서기 위해서는 실리 조합주의, 노조관료주의의 물적 토대인 남한 제국주의와 투쟁해야 한다. 남반구 식민지·반식민지 나라들에 대한 남한 자본가정부 · 독점자본의 약탈, 초과착취에 대항하는 투쟁이 필요하다. 이재명 정부와 남한 독점자본의 제국주의 초과이윤 착취, 자원약탈 행보는 가자지구 가스 에너지 수탈에만 국한 된 게 아니다. 남한 독점자본은 일찍이 동남아를 비롯한 남반구 반식민지 나라들에서 초과이윤을 뽑아내 왔다.

 

이재명 정부는 전쟁피해자들을 짓밟고 한일 경제·안보협력을 관철시켰다. 트럼프와 한 통속이 되어 대 중국 봉쇄를 겨냥한 “동맹의 현대화“를 추진하며 동아시아 전쟁 위기를 고조 시키고 미·중 제국주의 패권경쟁에 발을 담갔다. 이는 무슨 “종속”과 “강요”에 의해서가 아니라 자본가정부의 자기 이해에 따라, 제국주의 노획물 분배 참가를 위해, 세계시장 지분 확대를 위해, 세계의 분할·재분할 투쟁 가담을 위해 자행되고 있는 것이다. 남한 독점자본의 “국익”에 정확히 부합하는 것이다.

 

이재명 정부와 남한 독점자본의 식민지·반식민지 약탈 및 제국주의 전쟁 지지 책동에 맞선 투쟁과 팔레스타인 연대운동을 결합시키자. 현 시기 가장 강력한 반제국주의 투쟁이자 국제적 계급투쟁인 팔레스타인 연대운동에 노동운동이 앞장서 나서자. HD현대, 한화오션, 그밖에 직 간접적으로 팔레스타인 전쟁범죄에 연루된 독점자본을 규탄하고 실천투쟁으로 막아서자. 국제적 보이콧운동에 동참해 이스라엘 상품 불매, 이스라엘과 관련된 모든 지원, 행사 등을 막아서자. 피억압민족 노동자·민중과의 연대는 억압민족 노동자의 당연한 계급적 요구이자 의무다. 이것이 “노동자는 하나다” “만국의 노동자여 단결하라”라는 오랜 노동운동 정언문구를 현 정세에서 실천하는 것이다.
