성소수자 해방 없이 인간 해방 없다!

Let us overthrow Christian fundamentalism, fascism, Stalinism, and the hypocrisy of imperialism—build Queer Councils and a World Socialist Republic!

 

On 17 May 2025 – the 36th anniversary of the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia – we declare with conviction: hatred and oppression of sexual minorities are not mere cultural prejudices! They are systemic violence forged through the alliance of the state, religion, and capital, functioning as part of the ruling class’s strategy to dominate all the oppressed. The liberation of queer people is one and the same with the liberation of the working class and the oppressed. This liberation can only be achieved through an internationalist and revolutionary perspective.

 

 

 

Christian Fundamentalism: Social Violence in the Name of God

 

 

 

One of the most powerful ideological weapons of queer oppression is Christian fundamentalism. Claiming that “God created man and woman,” these reactionaries impose the heterosexual family as the only "natural order." They label homosexuality and transgender identities as sin and mental illness, justifying conversion camps, so-called therapies, and societal shaming as moral obligations.

 

In South Korea, such Christian right-wing forces incite hate, oppose anti-discrimination laws, disrupt pride parades, and politically attack the very existence of queer people. Cloaked in religion, they serve as political tools of oppression and guardians of capitalist ideology.

 

 

 

Nazism and Fascism: Organized Mass Murder under State Morality

 

 

 

Nazi Germany was the first state regime in history to systematically annihilate sexual minorities. In 1935, Paragraph 175 of the criminal code punished male homosexuality, and thousands were arrested as “social deviants” and sent to concentration camps. They wore pink triangles, were forced into labour, subjected to experiments, and murdered.

 

Fascist Italy under Mussolini similarly labelled sexual minorities as “non-citizens,” exiling and isolating them. Using “national morality” and “traditional family” as shields, they criminalized all sexual diversity. Fascism sought to make bodies, love, and sexuality into controllable state property—queer people were marked for extermination.

 

Fascism was a regime of extreme oppression, where sexual minorities were branded “unproductive,” “abnormal,” and “harmful,” treated as less than human.

 

 

 

Stalinism: The Betrayal of Sexual Liberation

 

 

 

In the early Russian Revolution, the Bolsheviks decriminalized homosexuality and recognized sexual freedom—becoming the first government in history to do so. Revolutionary Marxists saw sexual and women's liberation as inseparable from class emancipation.

 

But Stalin ruthlessly destroyed this revolutionary legacy. From the 1930s onward, homosexuality was re-criminalized. Queer people were denounced as “bourgeois decadents” and “moral degenerates,” imprisoned, or sent to labour camps. Stalinism, a counterrevolutionary bureaucratic regime, completely suppressed all forms of mass liberation, including sexual freedom.

 

Stalinist oppression used the same language as fascism and the Christian right: “healthy workers,” “traditional families,” and “social order” were used to trample freedom and silence identity.

 

 

 

The Hypocrisy of Western Imperialism: Selective Freedoms, Structural Exploitation

 

 

 

Many today mistakenly believe that sexual minorities are liberated in the U.S. and Europe. But such “freedom” is reserved only for bourgeois queer elites loyal to the system.

 

Same-sex marriage, rainbow marketing, and queer politicians are nothing but tactics of capitalist co-optation—not signs of true liberation.

 

Black trans women in the U.S. still face the highest murder rates. Queer refugees in Europe struggle to survive in legal and social limbo.

 

Capitalism commodifies identity, subjects queer freedom to market logic, and exerts control. True freedom cannot be granted in exchange for obedience to the system.

 

We reject this selective, hypocritical “freedom.” Queer liberation is only possible outside capitalism.

 

 

 

Unity of the Working Class and the Oppressed – Struggle for Common Liberation

 

 

 

Queer people are not just a cultural minority—they are part of the oppressed classes under capitalism, patriarchy, and imperialism.

 

Trans workers face firings and exclusion. Queer youth are expelled from homes and schools. Migrant LGBTQ+ individuals are excluded by borders and laws.

 

This reality shows that all workers and oppressed people are crushed by a common system. Thus, liberation can only be won through united struggle.

 

Queer liberation is not about inclusion or charity—it is a task to be achieved through class solidarity and revolutionary transformation.

 

 

 

Queer Councils and the World Socialist Republic – A Vision for Liberation

 

 

 

We declare:

 

Queer liberation must be realized through self-organization by queer people themselves—in the form of Queer Councils.

 

These councils must unite with workers’ councils to organize joint power struggles and build revolutionary alternatives.

 

And we know that liberation cannot be achieved within the bounds of any single nation or institution.

 

True liberation is only possible through a World Socialist Republic that overthrows capitalism and imperialism.

 

Let us build Queer Councils!

 

Let workers and the oppressed unite to construct a World Socialist Republic!

 

There is no human liberation without queer liberation!

기독교 우파, 파시즘, 스탈린주의, 제국주의 위선을 넘어 성소수자 평의회와 세계 사회주의 공화국을 건설하자!

 

2025년 5월 17일, 국제성소수자혐오반대의날 36주년을 맞아 우리는 단호히 외친다. 성소수자에 대한 혐오와 억압은 단지 문화적 편견이 아니라, 국가·종교·자본이 결합한 체제적 폭력이며 억압받는 계급 전체에 대한 지배 전략의 일부다. 성소수자의 해방은 노동자계급 · 피억압자 해방과 하나이며, 이 해방은 국제주의적 · 혁명적 전망 속에서만 실현될 수 있다.

 

 

 

1. 기독교 우파: 신의 이름으로 자행된 사회적 폭력

 

 

 

성소수자 억압의 가장 강력한 이데올로기 기제 중 하나는 기독교 근본주의 우파다. 이들은 “하나님이 남자와 여자를 창조했다”는 고대 신화를 근거로, 이성애적 가족만을 ‘자연 질서’로 강요한다. 이들은 동성애와 트랜스젠더 정체성을 죄악이자 정신병으로 규정하며, 회개 캠프, 전환 치료, 사회적 낙인이라는 이름의 폭력을 정당화한다.

 

한국에서도 이러한 우익 기독교 세력은 성소수자 혐오선동, 차별금지법 반대, 퀴어축제 방해를 자행하고, 정치 선전으로 성소수자의 존재 자체를 공격하고 있다. 그들은 종교를 내세우지만 실상은 성소수자를 억압하고 체제에 복종시키는 정치적 도구이자 자본주의의 이데올로기 수호자다.

 

 

 

2. 나치, 파시즘: 국가 도덕을 앞세운 조직적 학살

 

 

 

히틀러의 나치 독일은 성소수자를 제도적으로 말살한 역사상 최초의 국가체제였다.

 

1935년, 형법 제175조는 남성 간 동성애를 처벌했고, 수천 명의 동성애자가 ‘사회 부적응자’로 체포되어 강제수용소에 갇혔다. 이들은 핑크색 삼각형을 달고 강제노동과 생체실험 속에서 학살되었다.

 

무솔리니의 파시스트 이탈리아 역시 성소수자를 ‘비국민’으로 규정하며 격리 추방했다. 이들은 ‘국가 도덕’과 ‘전통 가족’을 앞세워 모든 성적 다양성을 반국가적 범죄로 몰았다. 파시즘은 인간의 몸과 사랑, 성을 통제 가능한 국가 자산으로 만들려 했고, 성소수자는 제거 대상이었다.

 

파시즘은 억압의 논리를 극단화시킨 체제였다. 그 안에서 성소수자는 ‘비생산적’, ‘비정상적’, ‘유해한 존재’로 규정되며 인간 이하의 취급을 받았다.

 

 

 

3. 스탈린주의: 성해방의 배신자

 

 

 

러시아 혁명 초기, 볼셰비키는 동성애를 비범죄화하고 성적 자유를 인정한 세계 최초의 정권이었다. 혁명적 마르크스주의자들은 여성해방, 성해방을 계급해방과 동일선상에서 다루었다.

 

그러나 스탈린은 이 혁명적 유산을 철저히 파괴했다.

 

1930년대 이후 동성애는 다시 범죄로 규정되었고, 성소수자는 ‘부르주아적 타락’, ‘도덕 해이’로 몰려 투옥되거나 강제노동소로 보내졌다. 스탈린주의는 반혁명적 관료집단이 권력을 독점하며, 성소수자 해방을 포함한 모든 대중의 해방을 철저히 봉쇄한 체제였다.

 

스탈린주의의 억압은 파시즘, 기독교 우파와 동일한 언어를 썼다.

 

‘건전한 노동자’, ‘전통 가족’, ‘사회질서’라는 이름으로, 성적 자유를 짓밟고 정체성을 침묵시켰다.

 

 

 

4. 유럽·미국 제국주의의 위선: 선택적 자유, 구조적 착취

 

 

 

오늘날 많은 사람들은 미국이나 유럽에서 성소수자가 해방되었다고 착각한다.

 

하지만 그것은 체제에 충성하는 일부 부르주아 성소수자만이 누리는 특권일 뿐이다.

 

동성혼 합법화, 무지개 마케팅, 성소수자 정치인의 등장은 성소수자 대중의 해방과는 무관한 자본주의의 포섭 전략이다.

 

미국의 흑인 트랜스 여성은 여전히 가장 높은 살해율을 기록하고 있으며, 유럽의 난민 성소수자들은 인권 사각지대에서 생존을 위해 투쟁하고 있다.

 

자본주의는 정체성을 시장에 종속시키고, 성소수자의 자유를 상품화하고 통제한다.

 

진정한 자유는 체제에 복종하는 대가로 얻는 것이 아니다.

 

우리는 이 선택적·위선적 자유를 거부한다. 성소수자 해방은 자본주의 체제 바깥에서만 가능하다.

 

 

 

5. 노동자계급 · 피억압자의 연대 – 공동의 해방 투쟁

 

 

 

성소수자는 단지 문화적 정체성이 아니라, 자본주의·가부장제·제국주의에 의해 억압받는 피억압계급의 일부다.

 

트랜스 노동자는 해고와 배제를 당하고, 퀴어 청소년은 가정과 학교에서 쫓겨나며, 성소수자 이주민은 국경과 법률에서 배제된다.

 

이러한 현실은 노동자계급과 피억압자 전체가 하나의 체제에 의해 함께 억압당하고 있음을 보여준다. 따라서 해방은 공동의 투쟁 속에서만 실현될 수 있다.

 

성소수자 해방은 단지 포용이나 배려가 아니라, 계급적 연대와 혁명적 변혁을 통해 쟁취되어야 할 과제다.

 

 

 

6. 성소수자 평의회와 세계 사회주의 공화국 – 해방의 전망

 

 

 

우리는 선언한다.

 

성소수자 해방은 성소수자 스스로의 자기조직화,

 

즉 성소수자 평의회를 통해 정치적으로 실현되어야 한다.

 

이 평의회는 노동자평의회와 결합해, 공동의 권력투쟁을 조직하고 혁명적 대안을 만들어낼 것이다.

 

그리고 우리는 이 해방이 한 국가나 제도 안에서 완성될 수 없음을 알고 있다.

 

진정한 해방은 자본주의·제국주의를 넘어서는 세계 사회주의 공화국 속에서만 가능하다.

 

성소수자 평의회를 건설하자!
