Voice of the People: Rallies in Ukraine in Summer 2026

By Comrade Makslir, "Spalakh" (Ukrainian section of RCIT), 19 July 2026

As of 19 July 2026, the rallies are in their fourth day. Thousands of people took to the streets with the hope of returning the effective and progressive Fedorov, who, according to the protesters, unjustly lost his position and was not included in the new Cabinet of Ministers.

During the rallies, participants asked not only questions related to Fedorov. Demands for the fight against corruption, solving problems related to the war, as well as holding elections were increasingly heard.

Recent personnel decisions have become an occasion for widespread discussion. They reflect not only the change of individual officials, but also the struggle between two different approaches to waging war.

On the one hand, there is the course of “Western” doctrines, which is associated with the modernization of weapons and the introduction of new technologies. On the other, there is a more “Soviet” vision, which focuses on traditional bureaucratic and military decision-making mechanisms.

However, the problem is much bigger than the fate of one minister or one general. Ukraine needs not just a change of surnames, but a radical change in the system and state administration. The people, understandably, were outraged by the ineffective decision of the president, who wants his own defeat. If Zelensky cannot understand this, then Russian imperialism will continue to advance deeper into our country.

If the rallies achieve the resignation of Syrsky, this can be considered a small victory. But the elimination of an individual military leader in itself will not solve the problems because the principles by which state power functions will remain.

The rallies indicate that a significant part of society seeks to take a more active part in discussing how war should be conducted and state policy in general. In the opinion of many, this demonstrates the growing public demand for accountability of the authorities and the ability of citizens to influence decisions that directly affect their lives and their future.

If society does not have real mechanisms for controlling state institutions, then replacing some officials with others will not in itself eliminate systemic problems. That is why the struggle of the people for control over power is seen as no less important than the struggle to change specific leaders.

In this sense, the rallies can be seen as a manifestation of society’s desire for greater participation in determining the future course of the country. From the people’s perspective, long-term change is possible only when broad segments of the population take direct part in decision-making, and state policy becomes accountable to society, and not just to a narrow circle of capitalists and the bourgeoisie.
